Did you know that on the 23rd of March, 1857, the first successful passenger elevator carried customers up to the fifth floor of the Haughwout Building in New York City? It was not the first elevator, but it was the first commercial installation. Since then a lot has changed.

Nowadays, Passenger Elevators are available in capacities of 400 KG up to 2500 KG. For buildings of eight floors or fewer, the systems used are usually hydraulic (speeds up to 1.0 m/s) or electric (speeds up to 3.0 m/s) while for buildings with floors of eight or more, it is typical to use an electric or gearless system and these range with a speed of up to 10m/s.
